Government Retreat on Togo’s Development Strategy : Session 1 - Challenges and Levers for Ensuring a Doubling of the Average Standard of Living in Togo by 2040
Overview & Synopsis
Ensuring a doubling of GDP per capita levels and a reduction in the poverty rate to below 15 percent by 2040 would require the implementation of an ambitious reform program to scale up private investment in critical sectors for structural transformation such as agro-industrial and logistics value chains, energy, digital, finance and other productive services, alongside efforts to strengthen skills needed for those sectors. Priority interventions can be grouped under four themes: (i) modernizing agriculture and leveraging agro-industrial and logistics value chains for economic and territorial transformation; (i) enhancing Togo’s attractiveness as a regional investment and trade hub; (iii) improving human capital and the supply of adequate skills to meet labor market needs; (iv) strengthening government capacity, better prioritizing actions, and optimizing the use of scarce public resources.
