Overview & Synopsis
This paper aims to assess the state of research in the field of sports history in Italy, taking as its starting point the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Società italiana di storia dello sport (Siss). Its goal is to evaluate the future prospects for sports history - and for the history of football in particular - both in terms of thematic and chronological expansion, and with regard to the full academic recognition of the discipline.
