Maximizing Social and Peace Dividends of Climate Action
Overview & Synopsis
An expanding body of evidence suggests that when well-designed and carefully implemented, climate action in FCV settings can strengthen climate resilience – the capacity to prepare for, withstand, adapt to, and recover from shocks and stresses – while also generating broader peace and social benefits. By aligning climate and FCV objectives and managing operational risks, such efforts can help interrupt cycles of vulnerability while generating gains in resilience, stability, livelihoods, jobs, and institutional capacity. Maximizing the Peace and Social Dividends of Climate Action seeks to contribute to this emerging agenda. It draws on new World Bank research using new data sources and field-based insights from climate programs in FCV-affected countries. Critically, in addition to high-level recommendations for policymakers and senior decision-makers, the report’s primary goal is to provide operational guidance for frontline practitioners designing and implementing climate action in FCV contexts.
