A Case Study in Reform: Integration of Teacher Education in Agriculture with Teacher Education in Mathematics and Science.
Overview & Synopsis
The merger that formed Cornell University's Teacher Education in Agriculture, Mathematics, and Science Program was driven by faculty retirement and desire for economies of scale. However, the cultures of agriculture and math/science remain distinct. Successful mergers require recognizing different frames of reference, identifying areas of administrative overlap, integrating incrementally, and allowing time for development of common understandings.
