Benin - Beyond Connections : Energy Access Diagnostic Report Based on the Multi-Tier Framework

Economics & Development Published 2026 Verification Pending

Overview & Synopsis

This report details the results of the MTF survey in Benin and provides the status of access to electricity and access to modern energy cooking solutions in that country. The World Bank, with support from the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program, has launched the Global Survey on Energy Access, using the Multi-Tier Framework (MTF) approach. The survey provides nuanced data on energy access, including access to electricity and cooking solutions. The MTF goes beyond a binary measurement—for example, “having or not having” an electricity connection, “using or not using” clean fuels for cooking—to capture the multidimensional nature of energy access, the range of technologies and sources that provide it, and the wide differences in user experience.
