Burundi - Supporting Youth-at-Risk through the Creative Sector Project : Grant
Overview & Synopsis
The objective of the Supporting Youth-at-Risk through the Creative Sector Project is to increase economic opportunities in the creative sector for youth at risk in selected areas of the country. The project supports the government high-priority’s agenda reflected in the revised National Development Plan (NDP 2018–2027) and National Youth Policy (2016–2026). The main objectives outlined in both policies include: (i)developing the country’s human capital, (ii) improving youth employment outcomes including through strengthened partnerships between government and the private sector; and (iii) enabling sustained, inclusive growth to support economic resilience and sustainable development. Furthermore, the Burundi’s vision to become an Emerging Country by 2040 and a Developed Country by 2060 provides a comprehensive framework for youth employment and economic transformation. This vision includes a dedicated pillar on enhancing creative and cultural heritage as a strategic pathway for youth employment, linking progress in these areas to the Country’s stability and social cohesion, particularly critical in the context of rapid population growth. The proposed project is also aligned with the Burundi Risk and Resilience Assessment (RRA), which calls on development partners to support peaceful coexistence among youth groups, especially during the upcoming electoral period, historically marked by tensions and violence.
