Overview & Synopsis
An overview of higher education in Korea is presented in the following chapters: (1) "Introduction" (about Korea, overview of Korean education, and structure of higher education in Korea); (2) "Development of Korean Higher Education" (Dynasties period, era of Japanese rule, post-liberation period); (3) "Aspects of Korean Higher Education" (governance and management; faculty and students; curriculum and instruction; finance, expenditure and facilities; teacher education, and internationalization of higher education); and (4) "Present Issues of and Future Prospect for Korean Higher Education" (major issues and problems; directions for reform, and policy tasks for development). Appendices list member institutions of the Korean Council for University Education and nine suggestions for supplementary reading. Nineteen tables and six figures illustrate information presented in the text. (KM)
