Overview & Synopsis

The Sustainable Renewables Risk Mitigation Initiative (SRMI) supports governments in creating environments conducive to privately led renewable energy projects by offering technical assistance, concessional funding for targeted public investments, and innovative risk mitigation instruments. The SRMI Renewable Energy Capacity Building Academy (the Academy) is a 9-month hybrid capacity building initiative developed under SRMI and implemented in partnership with the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) as implementing agency and multiple partners such as AfDB and GIZ Get.Transform. It is the second edition of SRMI's Renewables Capacity Building Program, building on a successful anglophone cohort delivered in 2024-25 in partnership with GIZ GET.transform and the Power Futures Lab at the University of Cape Town. The Academy aims to support francophone African governments in planning, preparing, and implementing bankable renewable energy tenders for solar, wind, and storage technologies, leveraging international best practices and private IPP investment. Throughout the second face-to-face training, participants engaged with the fictional case study of Africana, a composite country scenario used in group exercises to apply concepts progressively across the full renewable energy project development cycle, from planning to project award.
