Standards: Encouraging the Arts in Schools.
Overview & Synopsis
Teachers can use arts standards as a tool to determine what is important to teach and learn. Recent federal legislation places the arts on the same level as other academic subjects. Professional organizations are beginning to develop standards for art teacher preparation. The paper examines 12 standards for art teacher education developed at the University of Georgia. (SM)
