Uzbekistan - Geospatial Infrastructure for Sustainable Territorial Development Project
Overview & Synopsis
The objective of the Geospatial Infrastructure for Sustainable Territorial Development Project is to improve the availability and accessibility of geospatial data in Uzbekistan. The project has three components, the first being support for NSDI Implementation. This component will support the implementation of UZ-NSDI as an integral part of Uzbekistan’s digital government system, based on the Action Plan developed during project preparation in line with the United Nations-endorsed Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF). This component includes two subcomponents: support for NSDI implementation at the central level and support for NSDI contributing institutions. The second component is the Geospatial Infrastructure and Data Enhancement. This component will support the enhancement of surveying and mapping infrastructure (at the central and municipal levels), including the CORS network as well as IT and surveying equipment and software for automated and efficient data collection, which will improve the quality of cadastral and other basic geospatial datasets that will simultaneously enhance climate resilience, identify areas most exposed to climate risk, and design appropriate emergency response plans. This component includes three subcomponents: enhancing surveying and mapping infrastructure, enhancing information systems and data, and piloting new systems and technologies at the municipal level. Finally, the third component is institutional capacity enhancement and project management.
