Armenia Poverty : Snapshot Over 2010-2021
Overview & Synopsis
In 2021, the Armenian economy grew by 5.7 percent, and the consumer price index grew by 7.2 percent. As a result, no significant change in the poverty level was recorded. In 2021, poverty rate calculated with respect to the average poverty line did not undergo statistically significant changes (taking into account standard deviation and confidence interval is equal to 95 percent characteristic for sample surveys), except for extreme poverty rate. In particular, poverty rate by the average poverty line in 2021 was 26.5 percent, which was 0.5 percentage points lower than the respective indicator of 27.0 percent in the previous year. Extreme poverty rate was 1.5 percent, thus comprising a 2.1 times increase compared to the respective indicator of 0.7 percent in 2020. Compared to the overall poverty rate, extreme poverty rate is, as a rule, more sensitive to the annual changes in poverty line, indicating that in 2020-2021 concentration of the population around extreme poverty line is greater than that around overall (average) poverty line.
