Overview & Synopsis

The objective of the Sustainable Cities and Land Project for Cameroon is to improve access to climate-resilient infrastructure and enhance land administration services in targeted urban areas in Cameroon. The project adopts a multi-sectoral approach to invest in urban development and land administration while adapting to the challenges of climate change. The integrated project invests mainly in climate-resilient infrastructure and land administration services. The project consists of four integrated components. The first component invests in critical urban infrastructure, accompanied by policy and technical support and capacity building, focusing on priorities and operationalization. The second component complements the first to address the critical, chronic land administration bottlenecks that hinder sustainable urbanization and private sector growth. The third and fourth components invest in project management and emergency preparedness, respectively, to ensure effective project implementation and rapid response to emergencies. The cities of Yaoundรฉ and Douala are leading economic agglomerations and are expected to drive growth and job creation in the country and provide demonstration effects for other cities in Cameroon. In addition, the project incorporates multi-stakeholder processes and actively involves citizens and beneficiaries. It is also aligned with other relevant initiatives and projects financed by the World Bank, the GoC, and development partners.
