Equitable Outcomes and Indigenous Learners of Mathematics: Deconstructing Australian Education Policy
Overview & Synopsis
For decades, Indigenous education policy discourses have been geared toward the overarching objective of 'Closing the Gap' on disparity in educational outcomes in Australia. This article will closely deconstruct key policy discourse associated with the 'issue' of Indigenous student attainment of outcomes within the discipline of mathematics. Drawing from critical policy as discourse approaches to policy analysis, ways in which constructs of 'equity' have been discursively shaped will be called into question. This work builds on existing theory on the relationship between mathematics education and equity, specifically with respect to Indigenous learners.
