Overview & Synopsis

The course presents a deep dive on gender equality, disability and social inclusion in development projects, with a focus on gender equality, social inclusion, gender-based-violence (GBV), sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA), and sexual harassment (SH). The World Bank recognized that all its financed projects can increase the risk of several forms of GBV, particularly, sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA), and sexual harassment (SH) (SEA/SH), in both public and private spaces, in person and online, by a range of perpetrators and in a number of ways1. To ensure full and equal participation, and safer spaces for all, this course adopts human rights-based approach with a focus on addressing sexual exploitation and abuse, as well as sexual exploitation for inclusive and sustainable investment outcomes. It introduces human rights issues that consider the need for gender equality and social inclusion of vulnerable persons and groups in development projects. It is designed to equip participants with skills to identify issues relating to gender equality, disability and vulnerable groups, particularly victims of GBV, (Women, Children, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), SEA, SH) and general knowledge on the importance of instituting social safeguards, policies, and regulations of development projects to address inequality and exclusion issues. It is expected to train participants to identify the triggers of gender, disability and social safeguards using the gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) framework, while aligning with the Bank’s Gender strategic objective of ending gender-based violence and elevating human capital2. It is also a development intervention that aims to improve awareness, knowledge, skill, and behaviour about gender and social inclusion.
