South Sudan - Health Sector Transformation Project : Additional Financing
Overview & Synopsis
The objective of the Additional Financing of the Health Sector Transformation Project for South Sudan is to expand access to a basic package of health and nutrition services, improve health sector stewardship, and strengthen the health system. The HSTP was approved on December 20, 2023, and declared effective on September 18, 2024, with an initial total funding envelope of US117 million dollars, comprising: (a) an IDA grant of US12 million dollars equivalent; and (b) a grant from the IDA20 Window for Host Communities and Refugees (WHR) of US105 million dollars equivalent. Additional resources totaling 242.5 million dollars were expected to be mobilized as donor funding through a Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) and a Single-Donor Trust Fund (SDTF) between January and September 2024. As of June 10, 2025, less than 50 percent of the estimated fund has been mobilized through the MDTF, with additional funds in process but likely to fall short of the initially anticipated amount. Therefore, the AF will help fill the financing gap needed to support project implementation.
