Madagascar - Connecting Madagascar for Inclusive Growth Project : Additional Financing
Overview & Synopsis
The development objective of the Connecting Madagascar for Inclusive Growth Project for Madagascar is to improve the connectivity, resilience, and management of key roads in selected rural areas, including in the South, for improved access to social and economic opportunities of rural communities. The additional financing (AF) will support: (a) a full replenishment of the financing gap caused by the activation of the contingency emergency response component (CERC) on April 23, 2024 at the Government’s request to mitigate the impacts of cyclones that hit Madagascar early 2024 (US 60 million dollars); and (b) an expansion of the project scope by adding a component dedicated to repairing bridges damaged by cyclones in the project areas (US 151.5 million dollars). Together with a level two restructuring of the parent project, the AF will formalize the reallocation of resources, revise the project development objective (PDO) to reflect the rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by recent climate events, allow for an update of the results framework (RF), and facilitate the full implementation of key activities under the project.
