Burundi - Additional Financing for Transport Resilience Project
Overview & Synopsis
The development objectives of the Transport Resilience Project are to provide efficient, safe, and climate-resilient road connectivity along the main corridor linking Burundi with Tanzania, and to strengthen the institutional capacity to sustainably plan, develop, and preserve climate-resilient road assets. This second level of restructuring seeks the approval for an Additional Financing (AF) to cover a financing gap aimed at replenishing funds due to the activation of the Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC) for the project in the amount of five million US dollars equivalent from the International Development Association (IDA) Crisis Response Window (CRW) to Burundi. The AF will replenish the five million US dollars reallocated from the Parent Project’s Component 1: Climate Resilient Road Rehabilitation, and Social Services to Component 5: Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC) on June 3, 2025, due to the activation of CERC for the flood disaster response. The replenishment will ensure the completion of the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Boulevard Ndadaye (1.8 km) in Bujumbura. The Project Development Objectives (PDOs), the project scope, the safeguards category, and the implementation arrangements will remain the same. A new intermediate indicator will be included in the results framework to reflect additional interventions through CERC.
