South Sudan Human Capital Review
Overview & Synopsis
This Human Capital Report provides a strategic framework for advancing human capital development in South Sudan. It was prepared in response to the Government of South Sudanβs request following the July 2023 Africa Human Capital Heads of State Summit. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities in the human capital landscape of South Sudan. Utilizing a life cycle approach, it examines human capital formation across three population groups: early childhood (0-6 years), school-age (6-18 years), and youth/young adult (18-35 years), which together represent approximately 80 percent of the population. The report is intended to inform policy dialogue and support strategic decision making on human capital development. It offers a strategic synthesis that emphasizes actionable pathways to strengthen the foundation of human capital in South Sudan, aligning closely with government priorities set forth in the Revised National Development Strategy.
