Turkmenistan - Monitoring Reporting and Verification System for Methane Emissions in the Oil and Gas Sector Project : Grant
Overview & Synopsis
This paper presents a proposed 5 million dollar grant from the Global Flaring and Methane Reduction Partnership Trust Fund to support the development of a Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) System for Methane Emissions in Turkmenistan’s oil and gas sector. The project aims to strengthen the Government of Turkmenistan’s capacity to monitor, report, verify, and reduce methane emissions through the establishment of an MRV framework, regulatory support, capacity building, methane detection and assessment activities, and the preparation of a national gas loss reduction action plan. The initiative is expected to improve environmental performance, enhance transparency in the energy sector, support climate commitments under the Global Methane Pledge, and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while mobilizing future investments for methane reduction.
