Undermining Power Structures through Art Education: The Case Study of Imma's "Deep Viewpoints"
Overview & Synopsis
As education is one of the main sites for the production of knowledge, the relationship between pedagogy and power is an intimate one. Indeed, every pedagogical relationship entails the (re)production of specific power structures. In this article, the author investigates the power--knowledge nexus, addressing the twofold character of education in securing or disturbing power hierarchies. After recalling some of the key theoretical concepts pointing to the former option, the author discusses how education, through nonstandard methods of knowledge production and exchange, may generate powerful knowledge that questions existing power configurations.
