Training and Data Collection Guidance Note : Anchor Items for Measurement (AIM) - Early Childhood Development (ECD) Caregiver Report Module (Presentation)
Overview & Synopsis
Despite the fact that ECD is a crucial determinant of a child’s future, several countries lack data on the status of children’s development. As a result, this training note contributes to the survey literature by identifying key challenges in collecting data on ECD using caregiver reporting, as well as providing solutions to these challenges. The training note leverages the experience of the World Bank’s Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) in conducting household surveys and advising countries on data collection protocols since 1980. This training note was developed based on past experiences in training interviewers for data collection in a multi-topic household survey, but also from the specific experiences encountered during training and data collection for Nigeria’s General Household Survey – Panel (GHS-Panel) Wave 5 2023/2024. The note is accompanied by two additional resources: A training presentation that explains all the questions included in the AIM-ECD Caregiver Report module that can be used for the training of interviewers; and a facilitator manual to be used with the training presentation for interviewers.
