GovTech Challenge Attracts Global Response to Tax Innovation
Overview & Synopsis
The GovTech Innovation Challenge, led by the World Bank with support from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and Trust Valley, has concluded its call for proposals with a significant response from the global innovation community. The initiative connects technology companies with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to address challenges in tax administration. A total of 136 proposals were submitted by startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from around the world. The challenge attracted submissions using various technologies - ranging from digital identity platforms and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered Payment Service Provider (PSP) monitoring to geospatial mapping and municipal integration - to help solve the GRAβs issues with informal sector income tax and e-commerce VAT compliance.
