Comoros - SADC Regional Statistics Project : Additional Financing
Overview & Synopsis
The objective of the Additional Financing for the SADC Regional Statistics Project in the Comoros is to strengthen the institutional capacity of SADC and participating countries to produce, disseminate, and utilize high-quality statistics, while enhancing regional harmonization and collaboration. Over the past decade, the Government has worked to strengthen national statistical capacity, particularly through INSEED, recognizing the strategic role of statistics in decision-making and public policy. The national statistical system undertook key sectoral surveys in health, agriculture, poverty, and economic statistics (national accounts and price data 2025), with the poverty and economic statistics supported by the project. Building on the project’s success, the AF will deepen data on agriculture and economic statistics, expand coverage to the private sector and demographic trends, and further develop capacity for data-driven decision-making. Support for building a strong monitoring and evaluation system for the National Development Plan - Plan Comores Emergent (PCE). The PCE is the national development strategy for 2019-2030, approved in December 2022, which aims to achieve sustainable, strong, inclusive, and equitable economic growth in Comoros and requires a strong monitoring and evaluation system with reliable indicators to guide public action. Despite progress, the statistical system continues to struggle to meet growing demands, especially due to budget constraints. The activities supported under the additional financing would alleviate the budget constraints and provide additional data critical for guiding public action.
