Roots and Dreams : A World Bank-Assisted Project
Overview & Synopsis
The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) is more than a project - it is a movement to transform the future of education for girls. Launched by the World Bank and partners, AGILE is designed to increase access to education, create safer learning environments, and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to thrive. At its heart, the program seeks to tackle one of the most pressing challenges in education today: how to bring more girls back to school, keep them there, and empower them with the skills they need to build brighter futures. This collection, the AGILE Graphic Novel Anthology, is a creative extension of that mission. Born from a three-day hackathon, it represents an innovative experiment in teaching narrative composition with artificial intelligence. During this hackathon, adolescent girls from AGILE-supported schools came together to imagine, draft, and illustrate stories that reflect their lives, dreams, and struggles. Al tools were introduced not as replacements for their voices, but as companions in shaping those voices, helping them explore story structure, character development, and visual storytelling in new ways.
