Overview & Synopsis

The objective of the Accelerating Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation Project is to increase energy access in Lesotho. The project is structured around four key components to expand sustainable and clean energy access in Lesotho. The first component focuses on increasing access to on-grid electrification, which receives the largest share of funding (40 million dollar) and aims to expand grid connections to households, businesses, and public facilities. The second component, off-grid energy access pilot (5 million dollar), promotes distributed renewable energy solutions such as mini-grids and solar systems to reach underserved and remote populations. The third component, technical assistance and project management (5 million dollar), supports institutional capacity building, policy development, and effective project implementation, including monitoring and system strengthening. Finally, the contingent emergency response component (CERC) provides a flexible mechanism to rapidly respond to emergencies if needed, ensuring resilience and continuity of project objectives.
