Amazon Sustainable Landscapes (ASL) Face of Change : Collaboration for Transformation - 2026 Annual Conference
Overview & Synopsis
The Amazon Sustainable Landscapes Program (ASL) is a Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded initiative aimed at strengthening integrated landscape management and conserving ecosystems across priority areas of the Amazon region, including Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. National environmental agencies lead country-level implementation, supported by public and private institutions, civil society, and community organizations. The World Bank serves as the lead agency, working alongside GEF partners such as WWF, CAF, CI, FAO, IFAD, UNDP, and UNIDO to provide technical assistance and supervision. A regional coordination project led by the World Bank fosters collaboration, knowledge exchange, and shared learning across participating countries. The program emphasizes building networks, disseminating best practices, and generating knowledge to improve policies and sustainable management approaches. The Eighth ASL Conference, held from March 2–6, 2026, in Manaus, Brazil, marked the launch of the third phase (ASL3) and welcomed new project teams. It was a milestone event, with all eight Amazon countries represented for the first time, including Venezuela. This report summarizes key discussions, outcomes, and insights from the conference to inform ongoing and future program activities.
