Papers and proposals resulting from educational and rural development fieldwork in the highlands of Papua New Guinea by the education staff and students of the University of Papua New Guinea are included in this collection. Providing essential background knowledge necessary for formulating solutions to the complex and politically sensitive issues facing education in Papua New Guinea, this book presents information derived from interviews with village communities and school leavers re: their expectations of the school system and the extent to which these have been met; the primary school "push out" problem; the desire for adult education; and ways in which rural development can be fostered.
