Teacher Education for Moral Leadership.
Overview & Synopsis
With a renewed national emphasis on education, its teachers, and their influence, the moral aspect of teacher leadership has surfaced. It is logical to infer that teacher education, its programs, aims, and strategies would powerfully impact the kind or lack of moral leadership demonstrated by its graduates. To gain perspective, morality is defined and described. Education as a moral force as well as moral education are considered. The school as a moral community and the teacher's role are considered. Autonomy as a conceptual theme is related to the rational, aesthetic, and affective aspects of teacher education and their impact on the development of morally aware and sensitive graduates. Twelve implications for teacher education are given. (Author)
