Violence and harassment at the workplace – not only, but especially against women – are still an important issue. Despite societal awareness, women experience violence particularly frequently at work and in their private lives/families. What does violence mean in these contexts? The authors discuss theoretical foundations, empirical findings, and political options for action from sociological, political science, psychological, nursing science, jurisprudence, and practice-oriented perspectives. In this way, an interdisciplinary ‘kaleidoscopic picture’ of different violent situations, explanatory patterns, and consequences unfolds. With contributions by Ruth Abramowski | Guido Becke | Margrit Brückner | Thorsten Fehr | Vera Gallistl | Grit Höppner | Fatma Karakaş | Renate Klein | Annika Koppe | Christel Kumbruck | Joachim Lange | Sylke Meyerhuber | Marie Püffel | Ursula Rust | Arn Sauer | Klaus Schlichte | Iris Stahlke | Anna Wanka

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a radio frequency communication technology that transmits data stably and quickly within a short range. Due to its unprecedented accuracy, speed and reliability, it is an ideal technology for the indoor location of moving targets in space-sensitive and complex environments. This book disseminates some of the latest scientific and technological contributions by different researchers around the world in the development of both devices and applications based on UWB technology. Antennas, filters, resonators, delay cells, and transmitters are some of the useful electronic devices or systems described. This book aims to serve as a source of inspiration for continuing scientific research on commercial, industrial, and military applications of UWB technology. The book will be a valuable source of information for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as for experts and researchers around UWB technology.

Every representation of the world, every drawing, every critical reflection ultimately describes ourselves; it defines us as people and as researchers. The text Cities suspended between capes and rivers collects the results of a research carried out for over a decade, from 2011 to 2023, which involved six small towns on the Sicilian Ionian coast: Forza d’Agrò, Casalvecchio, Mandanici, Fiumedinisi, Alì and Itala. The synthetic restitution of tangible and intangible data is graphically described in six reports dedicated to each city. The intent is to build an “identity map” characterized by the overlapping of numerous levels of interpretation: some analytical and structured, others abstract and synthetic, still others nuanced and playful.

Practices of comparing shape how we perceive, organize, and change the world. Supposedly innocent, practices of comparing play a decisive role in forming categories, boundaries, and hierarchies; but they can also give an impetus to question and change such structures. Like almost no other human practice, comparing pervades all social, political, economic, and cultural spheres. This volume outlines the program of a new research agenda that places comparative practices at the center of an interdisciplinary exploration. Its contributions combine case studies with overarching systematic considerations. They show what insights can be gained and which further questions arise when one makes a seemingly trivial practice - comparing - the subject of in-depth research.

This collective work integrates accounting, taxation, technological, and organizational approaches with the processes of business digitalization in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through six chapters, it examines emerging phenomena such as cryptocurrency accounting, the financial impact of tax refunds, determinants of e-commerce adoption, and business perceptions regarding artificial intelligence. The volume concludes with a methodological reflection on user experience design as a strategic component of digital transformation. The text offers a balanced combination of theoretical rigor and empirical analysis. It incorporates quantitative models, case studies, systematic literature reviews, and qualitative analyses, with special emphasis on the Ecuadorian context, particularly the province of El Oro. This territorial focus highlights structural limitations faced by small and medium-sized enterprises in adopting disruptive technologies, as well as opportunities arising from the alignment of internal capabilities, public policies, and user-centered design tools. Aimed at researchers, professionals, and policymakers, the book proposes a cross-cutting reading of digitalization as an economic, regulatory, and organizational phenomenon. It provides evidence and analytical tools useful for understanding and managing the challenges of digital transition in emerging economies.

Low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs) represent a novel communication paradigm that will replace or complement traditional cellular and short-range wireless technologies in several applications. In relation to the Internet of Things (IoT), LPWANs are expected to offer energy-efficient connectivity to a high number of low-power devices, distributed over very large geographical areas. In this context, LoRa is a promising LPWAN technology for inter-connecting billions of low-power IoT nodes. We envision that an increasing number of IoT nodes will be deployed and connected to the Internet via LoRa to enable various innovative applications in several domains, including smart cities, smart monitoring, healthcare, and factory automation. We face great practical challenges and research opportunities in the design, implementation, and evaluation of LoRa technology and its applications and system development. This Special Issue is focused on LPWAN technologies, particularly LoRa, addressing (but not limited to) the following topics: Experimental deployments and solutions for mobile scenarios or situations where devices are deployed in a wide area; Machine learning techniques for the configuration and management of LoRa-based communications; Novel physical layer design and optimization for LoRa; Novel link layer and network layer design and implementation for LoRa; Co-existence and co-operation of LoRa with other wireless technologies in ISM bands; Security aspects of LoRa.

"To pursue the philosophy of music is to contemplate music’s nature, essence, purpose, value, and function in our lives. While the aesthetics of music looks at music’s content, quality, meaning and importance, music philosophy often goes one step further. Ideas about something one perhaps believes is ‘purely aesthetical’ will of course always require consideration in relation to ideas about humanity, the world, politics and religion. In this sense, music aesthetics and music philosophy are two sides of the same coin. This is reflected in the texts presented in this collection, which provides a broad view of the current state of ideas about music in Norway. The authors, from PhD fellows to emeriti, represent different higher educational music institutions in Norway as well as different fields within music and philosophy. Their texts are on topics ranging from musical experience, music and language, meaning and interpretation of music, music and view of life, and others. The anthology’s editors Øivind Varkøy and Henrik Holm are, respectively, professor of music education and director of the PhD program at the Norwegian Academy of Music and adjunct professor of music at Oslo Metropolitan University, and professor of philosophy and head of research at Rudolf Steiner University College in Oslo."
