This report documents how Indonesia’s Social Forestry Program, supported by the Strengthening of Social Forestry in Indonesia (SSF) Project financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the World Bank, has strengthened community livelihoods and environmental stewardship across Lampung, West Nusa Tenggara, West Sumatra, and North Maluku. Through legal access to forest resources, capacity building, market linkages, and community-based enterprises, local groups have restored mangroves, adopted agroforestry practices, diversified agricultural production, developed honey, ginger, rattan, livestock, and food-processing businesses, and enhanced ecotourism opportunities. The publication highlights the experiences of communities in South Lampung, Bima, and West Halmahera, where sustainable forest management has generated income, empowered women and youth, strengthened local institutions, and improved resilience to environmental and economic challenges. It demonstrates how partnerships among communities, government, and development partners can promote inclusive rural development, forest conservation, climate resilience, and shared prosperity while ensuring that forests remain a foundation for future generations.
