Ratings for the Guangxi Rural Poverty Alleviation Pilot Project for China were as follows: outcomes were highly satisfactory, the Bank performance was satisfactory, and the monitoring and evaluation quality was substantial. Some lessons learned included: the rehabilitation and construction of production roads, small-scale water storage facilities and related irrigation systems; public rural market facilities; electricity supply; and other infrastructure, together with the establishment of information technology and telecommunication infrastructure, created an enabling environment for the agro-enterprises to participate in the project by partnering with the farmer cooperatives. These rural infrastructures and public services increased productivity through irrigation systems and efficiency improvement, enhanced market access, reduced transport, and logistics costs reduced postharvest losses and enabled 57 farmer cooperatives to profit. Matching grants were justified during the initial years of the project implementation to promote the adoption of new production technologies and practices, which are costly to smallholder farmers; compensate farmers for their contribution to the generation of public goods (e.g., GHG emissions and pollutant reductions); and provide upfront financial incentives to hedge against the risks associated with switching to new technologies and practices. In China, experience has shown (e.g., Hunan Integrated Management of Agricultural Pollution Project and Guangdong Agricultural Pollution Control Project) that once the new technical production packages are financially viable, farmers continue to use them even without matching grants. Matching grants provided to enterprises leveraged private capital and played a critical role in linking farmer cooperatives and farmers to the agricultural value chain and creating income-generation opportunities.

The objective of this project was to update the Green Value Chain Explorer (FURL: GVCE/), a user-friendly, interactive dissemination dashboard that visualizes metrics for countriesโ strengths and opportunities in the value chains of decarbonization technologies. The dashboardโs target audience is WBG staff with non-technical backgrounds and limited bandwidth, with a focus on CCDR and CPSD TTLs. Within the context of CCDRs, visualizations shed light on countriesโ strengths, opportunities, growth trends, and product characteristics that are inserted in green value chains. This will help inform timely discussions and lines of inquiry for CCDRs and CPSDs.

The development objective of Climate and Carbon Finance for Renewable Energy Project is mobilizing climate and carbon finance support for distributed renewable energy development in Bangladesh. This project has a single component, Results-based climate/carbon finance (RBC/CF) with Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) in exchange for verified Standardized Crediting Framework (SCF) Emission reductions (ERs) generated between January 2021 and December 2024 by 3.3 million of the existing SHS installed with support from the World Bank RERED series of projects. The Ci-Dev transaction structure entails two types of legal documents: the Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA) and the Host Country Agreement (HCA). The extension of the Ci-Dev till December 2027, as approved in November 2024, offers opportunities to support scaling up of results-based carbon operations in the RE sector. Potential next steps include: a) exploration of innovative financial instruments centered by the generation of high integrity ERs from RE sectors; b)continued technical assistance on domestic policy and technical readiness in accessing international carbon market through robust governance structures and transparent processes; and c) comprehensive capacity building for government officials, private sector actors, and civil society organizations to ensure thorough understanding and effective participation in A6 carbon market.
