Abstract
Abstract The role of communication in positivist international relations theory has generally been limited to rational choice accounts of signaling or cooperation in a competitive system of states. However, critical theorists and constructivists working in the discipline have emphasized the importance of communication in the development of key international rules and norms. Meanwhile, postcolonialists and poststructuralists have suggested the need to consider the relationship between marginalized groups and the predominant forms of international communication.
